Leura resident Janet Mays recently described how after being diagnosed with suspected appendicitis at Katoomba Hospital on July 5 she was transferred to Nepean Hospital.
In an open letter to the Gazette she described waiting 27 hours before being operated on, with insufficient pain relief, an incorrectly place cannula in her arm, and poor communication about her treatment.
At the same time Springwood residents are firing up to save Springwood Hospital's surgical facility, while Labor's federal health spokesperson Nicola Roxon says 25,000 people are waiting for general dental treatment in the area covered by Sydney West Area Health Service.
