Nathan Bracken has stepped out from the shadows of his more celebrated teammates to top the rankings as the world's number one limited overs bowler.
The former Springwood High School student took his game to another level on the Australian team's recent tour of the West Indies, propelling him above New Zealanders Daniel Vettori and Shane Bond on the International Cricket Council's official player ratings.
Having spent much of his career in the shadows of the likes of Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee this latest honour is just reward for the crafty left arm quick.
Bracken has reinvented himself in recent years as a prolific wicket taker in the one-day international (ODI) game. His series-topping eight wickets at 19.75 runs each enough to push him past the New Zealand duo and Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralidaran.
"A clean sweep of the series (against the West Indies) was the key objective," Bracken told the Sydney Morning Herald. "But to hit the top of the ODI bowler rankings in the process was a real bonus," he said.
